Typically there is not enough room for wisdom teeth to erupt. If there is not enough room, the teeth are classified as impacted. Impacted teeth can become problematic so removal of all wisdom teeth is recommended. If there is enough room, they erupt between the ages of 18-25. Occasionally, the gums around the eruption site can become infected in a condition refered to as pericoronitis. This condition is treated by extracting the tooth and rinsing the extraction site with an antimicrobial rinse.
